Example: Building a Quiz

This walkthrough builds a short safety quiz from start to finish. It uses the main parts of an adaptive videobot: questions with different grading, scoring and tags, a rule with two steps, sections, and two completion slides for viewers who pass and viewers who do not.

Before You Start

Create a videobot and add these seven slides, each with its video, as described in Adding Slides. Name them so they are easy to find in the dropdowns later:

  1. Intro
  2. Q1: Protective gear
  3. Q2: Lifting
  4. Lifting recap
  5. Q3: Emergency
  6. Passed
  7. Try again

On the Intro slide, add a button "Start the quiz" that links to Q1: Protective gear.

Step 1: Turn On Adaptive Mode and Add Sections

  1. Go to the Settings tab and switch on Adaptive mode in the Adaptive videobot section.
  2. Under Sections, add three sections: Gear, Handling and Emergencies.
  3. Leave Score during the journey off. The viewer sees their score only at the end.

Step 2: A Question with More Than One Right Answer

Open Q1: Protective gear from the Content tab and expand its Adaptive block.

  1. Under Role, choose Question.
  2. Set the Prompt to "Which of these do you wear on site?"
  3. Under Options, click Add option. The Edit option panel opens. Fill in the first row below and click Save. Repeat for the other two:
OptionPointsCounts as correctTags
Helmet5Ongear
Safety boots5Ongear
Sandals0Off
  1. Set Grading to Exact, so the answer only counts as correct when the viewer picks both Helmet and Safety boots and nothing else.
  2. Set Points for the exact answer to 5.
  3. Set the Hint to "Pick all that apply".
  4. Under When the question is answered, set Otherwise, continue to to Q2: Lifting.
  5. Open More settings and set Section to Gear.
  6. Click Save in the slide panel.

A viewer who picks exactly the two right options scores 5 + 5 + 5 = 15 points.

Step 3: A Single-Choice Question with a Recap

Open Q2: Lifting.

  1. Choose the Question role and set the Prompt to "How do you lift a heavy box?"
  2. Add two options: "Bend your knees" with 10 points and Counts as correct on, and "Bend your back" with 0 points and the tag lifting.
  3. Set both Minimum picks and Maximum picks to 1, so the viewer picks exactly one.
  4. Leave Grading on Every pick.
  5. Set Otherwise, continue to to Q3: Emergency.
  6. Set the Section to Handling.

Now send viewers who got it wrong to the recap first:

  1. Under When the question is answered, click Add rule.
  2. Under When, choose Answered correctly and No.
  3. Under Then, choose Lifting recap. Click Add step and choose Q3: Emergency.
  4. Save the rule, then save the slide.

A viewer who answers wrong watches the recap and then continues to the last question when the recap video ends. A viewer who answers right goes straight to Q3: Emergency.

Leave Lifting recap as it is: its role stays Content, and it has no section and no buttons.

  • No section: a section only reads Completed on the score card once the viewer has seen every slide in it. Viewers who answer Q2: Lifting right never see the recap, so putting it in Handling would leave that row Not completed for them.
  • No buttons: if the viewer pressed a button on the recap, the rule's second step would be dropped and the button's own link would apply instead.

Step 4: An Ordered Question That Decides the Result

Open Q3: Emergency.

  1. Choose the Question role and set the Prompt to "Put these steps in the right order."
  2. Add three options: "Raise the alarm", "Leave the building" and "Go to the assembly point". Give them no points and switch on Counts as correct on all three.
  3. Set both Minimum picks and Maximum picks to 3, so the viewer orders all three steps.
  4. Set Grading to Ordered. In Correct order, drag the options into the order above.
  5. Set Points for the exact answer to 10.
  6. Set the Hint to "Tap the steps in the order you would take them". The automatic hint for an ordered question talks about preference, which does not fit a question with a right order.
  7. Set the Section to Emergencies.

The highest possible score in this quiz is now 15 + 10 + 10 = 35 points, and 70% of that is 24.5. So a viewer passes with 25 points or more. Decide who passes:

  1. Set Otherwise, continue to to Try again.
  2. Add a rule: Score in percent, is at least, 70. Under Then, choose Passed.
  3. Save the rule and the slide.

The rule already counts the answer to Q3: Emergency, because it is checked as the viewer submits it.

Step 5: The Completion Slides

Open Passed.

  1. Choose the Completion role. Show a panel and Show the score are on.
  2. Set the Eyebrow to "Well done".
  3. Set the Lead text to You scored {{score}} out of {{maxScore}}. You are ready for site work.
  4. Save the slide.

Open Try again and do the same, with the Eyebrow "Almost there" and the Lead text You scored {{score}} out of {{maxScore}}. Check the parts below, then take the quiz again.

Both slides show the score card with a row for Gear, Handling and Emergencies, so the viewer sees which part to review.

The result is final once the viewer reaches a Completion slide. To let viewers try again, add a button "Take the quiz again" to Try again that links to Intro. Open the button, expand its Adaptive block, click Add rule under When this button is clicked, and choose Always under When and Start over under Then. Pressing it clears the answers and the score and starts a new attempt from the intro.

Step 6: Test in the Preview, Then Publish

  1. Open the Preview and play the quiz twice:
    • First, answer Q1: Protective gear right and get Q2: Lifting and Q3: Emergency wrong. The run should show the recap and end on Try again with 15 of 35 points.
    • Press Take the quiz again, then answer everything right. The run should skip the recap and end on Passed with 35 of 35 points.
  2. Click Save & Publish to make the quiz live for viewers. If anything is incomplete, the draft is saved but not published, and a window lists what to fix. See Saving and Fixing Problems.

Ideas for Taking It Further

  • Target the recap by topic: on a later question, add a rule with the custom condition Missed topics contains lifting to replay the lifting recap only for viewers who got a lifting question wrong.
  • Skip a question: add a normal button "Skip" to a Question slide. It navigates right away without scoring anything.
  • Review before the result: add a Content slide with Show a panel and Show section progress switched on, and point Q3: Emergency's rule and Otherwise, continue to at it. Give it a "See my result" button that links to Try again, and move the Score in percent is at least 70 rule onto that button. Switch on Viewer can change the answer later on the three questions, so viewers can tap a section and redo it before they finish. Changing an answer clears the answers after it, so viewers answer the later questions again too. See Section Progress.
  • Score during the journey: switch it on in the Settings tab, then switch on Show a panel on each question slide and add {{score}} to its lead text to show a running total. Until the viewer has answered the first question, the score shows "…".
